24th December 2021
It feels good to have a break from just working all the time, but at the same time, it kind of feels illegal to have one. Who cares? It’s Christmas! (although I don’t celebrate it, but still, that’s a universally acceptable excuse at this time of the year, and no one’s expected to do anything because they’re too busy celebrating Christmas). At least it’s given me time away from the screen (most of the time) and time away from just trying to do business things, so I’ll give it that.
I did a jigsaw puzzle for the first time in ages (mainly to have time away from the screen), and it was complex, very complex, despite it only having 500 pieces, but then again, all of the pieces had unusual shapes, which I guess adds to the whole point of the puzzle in the first place, to get your mind working. Well I did it and it only took me a grand total of 2 days (and that was spending the most part of those 2 days just working on the puzzle, figuring out where everything needs to go), and the feeling of putting the last piece in makes it so worth it, and allows you to remember why you chose to do it in the first place: in order to something that doesn’t involve a screen.
Linking it back to the world of business, you have to spend time with different pieces. Sometimes they won’t fit in, but then you look elsewhere and see if they fit in there instead, and if you work at it over time, you’ll get to see the bigger picture forming right in front of you. Spend every waking second on it, and you’ll start to hallucinate as well as losing your mind. Breaks are important, people! Great, now I sound like one of those pesky Linkedin people.
I also went to the theatre for the first time in ages (the last time I went was probably with school way back when), and again, like doing the jigsaw puzzle, it was refreshing to do something that didn’t involve a screen (well I was technically watching something, but it was live, so that counts as something that doesn’t involve a screen). However, at first, I wasn’t used to it being live because I was so used to watching movies, which have become so predictable that I don’t bother with them that much (unless it’s some super cool sci fi film that I’ve been meaning to watch for a while), so it felt nice to be able to watch something and not knowing what would happen next. I think I need to go there more often (and it’s the same price as going to the cinema, but the theatre is definitely worth the price since it’s live and you can only see it there and then, whereas you can watch the movies that are on at the cinema from the comfort of your own home, which renders going to the cinema to be something useless since it doesn’t have that exclusive edge anymore), which leads me to my next point.
Apparently, if you’ve seen one Christmas movie, you’ve seen them all, because they’re all the damn same and they all recycle the same plot, which means that they’re all the same (which is fairly similar with my disdain for websites looking the same as each other, which encouraged me to come up with the business idea that I’ve got), and Netflix is the biggest suspect since they just shit out tonnes of their own content all the time in order to convince people that they’ve got a lot of things, but really, most of it’s just fluff and filler that doesn’t really need to be there. I guess the plot of most Christmas films is that a young 20-something/millennial couple meet up in New York (it’s always gotta be New York, never anywhere else), where they both work crazy hours at some corporate job, and of course, some trouble happens, but they all happily resolve it in like one hour, and they Get To Be Home For Christmas™ as well as having their happy ending, like literally every other movie ever (and this what doing an A Level in Film Studies does to you, it makes you overly critical of films). In fact, all the Christmas movies are all the same to the point where I’m convinced that they’ve been generated by a bot, with AI, and don’t even get me started on all the Home Alone films (I mean, the first 2 were good, but after that, they were just milking it).
So, that concludes my ramblings, but then again, I’m doing stuff other than working, as well as becoming Kirby and eating allll the food, because I eat stuff and I’m still hungry, so I eat some more and I’m still hungry and so on, but let me have my fun. I’ll start working out in the New Year (says literally everyone ever, but they only do it for the first few days, probably a week or 2 at most, because they realise that it is hard, and that January is the month that lasts for about 10 years as well as being a fairly miserable and bleak month since there’s nothing else to look forward to for a while), and hopefully 2022 is at least a decentish year, but for now, back to eating all the food.
