My Internet

my version of the internet, and how i (ideally) want the internet to be in the long run

If you were on Are.na between January 2021 and May 2025, you will have most likely heard about "my internet", which was my channel that eventually consisted of approximately 50k blocks of how I wanted the internet to be in the long run.

The channel was famously used as an example for the speed test demonstrating the speed of the old and new web clients during the creation and implementation of Are.na's new web client, Sander.

As for the "my internet" channel itself, I originally started it as a way to gather portfolio inspiration at the start of 2021, without knowing that it would eventually become a bit of a community cornerstone on are.na itself, as the channel eventually amassed approximately 1.5k followers (which on a platform such as are.na, that is actually massive), and was also connected to a lot of other channels that existed on the platform.

I decided to end the channel in May 2025 as it became too big to maintain and practically impossible to download in full, as well as the fact that it outgrew the entire are.na platform.

This also doubled up as a performance art piece, both in the literal and metaphorical sense, as I also set out to understand what "unlimited" truly means in online spaces, as well as understanding the limits of platforms to house unlimited content, mainly through a channel that I created at a time when I was still unlearning a lot of algorithmic-based social media habits.
